In today’s world where work from home is in trend there is no chance that people can stay away from Computer screens. Computer has become one of the important parts of our lives. However, its well said, that anything in excess is not good, so is sitting more time in front of computer is not good.

We all have increased our screen time to 8-9 hours which is straining our eyes and increasing the problems leading to computer vision syndrome.

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is a condition in which due to long hours of concentrating on the computer screen the eye muscles are unable to recover from the constant tension. This leads to lack in maintaining focus on nearby object.

Few common symptoms found in the patients are headaches, fatigue in the eyes, dry eyes, redness in the eyes, double vision, blurry vision, etc. These effects normally increase if no proper care is taken.

There are few common tips for avoiding the constant contact with the computer:

Cut the glare:

The place where you are sitting with your computer try and reduce the lights around you to help reduce the effect of the screen. The other option can be to reduce the brightness of the screen. The lights in the room can be installed with dimmer effect for adjusting the shades as needed. Further, if possible, a lamp on the desk can be setup, this will enable to throw light evenly on the table. Lastly, a glare filter on your systems can be installed to help your eyes avoid the syndrome.

Rearrange the desk:

Normally, it is advisable to have a desk where the system is positioned slightly below the eye level about 20 to 28 inches away from the face. According, to the experts, it is not ideal to stretch your neck or strain your eyes. Therefore, by rearranging your desk, you would not have to strain your eyes or stretch your neck.

Giving your eyes a break:

It is good to give your eyes a break every 20 minutes, which will reduce the stress on them. It is better to follow 20-20-20 rule, this means we should look away from screen for 20 minutes and look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Constant blinking is also a very good technique to keep eyes moisturized. Lastly for dry eyes, eye drops are advised by the Physician.

So, it is good always to visit a eye doctor for regular check-ups, but using above measure you can ease your pain till you consult a doctor. For any help or consultation for eyes please visit MM Choksi Eye Hospital.
